Active Citizens is a social leadership programme from the British Council internationally which promotes intercultural dialogue and social responsibility as key leadership competencies in the 21st century. The Active Citizens programme promotes community-led social development and motivates members of communities to take responsibility for their social needs, while giving them the knowledge, skills and experience to address them.
Currently in over 70 countries around the World, Gareth Farry managed the New Zealand programme delivery in Auckland from 2017-2021, when the three-year programme in New Zealand ended.
Please view the programme document for 2020 here , and the final 2021 three year programme report here.
We took 240 social enterprise entrepreneurs, global studies students, kainga kore (homeless), change-makers and students of life through a three day training in intercultural problem solving, holding assumptions lightly and leading with the heart and head in matters of community resilience and development. We achieved some amazing results as part of the New Zealand chapter of this amazing global protocol.
